46 New Things to Try | Love U List

In the spirit of trying new things, I decided to use a suggestion from a friend and change up the action posts so from now on, you can expect more than a list of things to do! As always, before you continue, be sure to read “You Can Change” and “Operation Love U: Try Something New”. If you have already read them, you’re all set! And since this is still a fairly new addition, I thought I’d explain how it works.

Inspiration to Action is the overall idea behind how Love U Too can help you using a 3-step system:

  1. Inspiration: the system begins with a post like You Can Change meant to get you excited about the new topic,
  2. Operation Love U: next, I get a little personal with a post like Try Something New by sharing something I’ve done and why I think it will help you too,

Self Love Action List | Before I moved, I always planned to check out the unique restaurants and shops in the area but rarely did because they were out the way. Now that they’re only 5 minutes away, I find myself doing a lot more wandering!

Have An Adventure

In 2015, I moved into my first house. The process was a totally new experience and the most adulting I have ever done! Although I only moved 15 minutes away from my apartment, it has been filled with mini adventures: new routes, new store options, new restaurants, and new types of stores. Before I moved, I always planned to check out the unique restaurants and shops in the area but rarely did because they were out the way. Now that they’re only 5 minutes away, I find myself doing a lot more wandering! I can even walk if I plan ahead*. Two of my favorite (non-restaurants) spots happen to be the two metaphysical shops that are across the street from each other. Despite being similar stores, they both have something the other doesn’t. One has a wall of candles organized by color and sets for specific purposes. The other has a wall of specialty teas and a larger variety of gemstones and crystals. If I hadn’t bought a new home, who knows if I would have ever wandered into those stores?! Take a chance, start wandering, and have an adventure like:

Be Mindful

In Try Something New, I talked about losing weight and that I’ve gained weight (mostly due to stress). Losing weight required me to learn new habits and changing some of those habits led to the weight gain. So I’m working on developing new habits that I can maintain for longer periods. Those new habits include waking up earlier, meditating, and reading more books! In July, I read an article with a great tip for waking up earlier. Rather than jump right to a new wake up time, their method required getting up 1 minute earlier each day. In theory, that meant I’d wake up 30 minutes earlier after a month. I wanted to wake up 1 hour earlier. Rather than take two months, I woke up 2 minutes earlier. There were days I forgot to adjust my time and after a couple weeks, I could feel the difference. So i decided to stop when I got to 45 minutes earlier and I’ve been sticking with it! As I was working to wake up earlier, I had the time to develop some of my other habits. I had time to perform a 2-week journaling exercise from a book I was reading. When those 14 days were up, I had time to start meditating each morning. And now that I’ve adjusted to meditating, my next goal is to start doing what I planned to that made me want to wake up earlier in the first place: work out. Be mindful of your needs by trying new things like:

Keep it Simple

Although I love to try new things, I get nervous just like anyone else. For this reason, some of my new things aren’t all that new! In Change Your Hair, I talked about all the ways I’ve changed my hair over the past few years. Last year, I learned to cornrow so I could do crochet braid looks. After one semi-failed attempt**, I ended up doing something totally different to my hair. This year, I decided to revisit the crochet braid look using straight hair. Although I loved it, I realized I missed my late 2014/early 2015 look: box braids using colored marley hair left loose at the ends. So I decided to do a new version of an old favorite by using colored marley hair but instead of box braids, I’d do crochet braids! I already know I love the look. I already know what I need to change in my technique. The only real change is the color! If you’re not ready to make some dramatic change, keep it simple by doing something like:
